Boom Baby
Iona, a young woman from Canada’s east coast, works as a heavy equipment operator in the Alberta oilfields. When she finds herself pregnant after a casual encounter with a friend, Iona knows she can’t raise a child in a work camp. She considers having an abortion, but then she meets a couple working in management for the company who are unable to have children. When they present her with a proposal to adopt the baby, Iona recoils from the idea that everything has a dollar value. What can and cannot be sold? Shared resources? A river? The future? Boom Baby explores complex questions with heart and humour.
